DOUBLES KNOCKOUT COMPETITION RULES

The information below precedes any information found on the website, forum and any competitions held in previous seasons.

FORMAT

Matches for all rounds of all competitions will be played to the best of 7 frames

Teams will toss/lag to decide the intial break and alternate through to the end of the match (including the decider)

Normal doubles rules apply (not Scotch doubles)

DOUBLES - TALKING TO PARTNERS

The change-over point of visits in World rules is different to that of Stockport rules, and therefore we have a rule for each in regard to when partners are allowed to talk amongst themselves.

WORLD RULES ONLY

Talking is allowed after the BALLS STOP MOVING at the end of a partner’s turn, throughout the opponent’s turn, and up until the CUE BALL IS STRUCK at the beginning of the other partners turn. (paraphrase from http://www.epa.org.uk/wrulguid.php - 10.1 Coaching - Rule K12)

SDPL RULES ONLY

Talking is allowed after the BALLS STOP MOVING at the end of a partner’s turn, throughout the opponent’s turn (assuming they do not ask their opponents to play again), and up until the TABLE IS TOUCHED at the beginning of the other partners turn.

In consideration to rule 7f, if a ball drops into a pocket after the balls have come to rest, and this re-ignites their turn at the table, that team should immediately refrain from talking to each other.

PROCEDURES FOR ARRANGING MATCHES

Both teams to contact each other as soon as possible to arrange their match

Teams are required to be responsive to each other's communications when necessary (even if it's just to say "I'll let you know tomorrow morning")

First team to make contact should provide as many dates as possible

Teams should respond by either accepting a proposed date, or providing an alternative list of possible dates

Both teams should explicity confirm an agreed date

Home team should state their designated venue (World rules can use any venue in Prem 1 or Prem 2, and Stockport rules may use any venue used in Superleague, Div A or Div B)

A date should be agreed during the first quarter of the timeframe allocated for that round

Matches that have not been arranged within the first quarter should be reported to the committee

Matches can be rescheduled if both teams agree to an alternative date within the timeframe allocated for that round

Teams should keep a record of communications between themselves in case the committee need to intervene

Committee reserves the right to eliminate any team at any time

SUBSTITUTIONS

You are permitted to make changes to your team during the first round prior to playing your first match. The reason for this is because the knockout schedule was not available at the time that teams registered their players. You need to inform the committee of any team changes, and they will inform your opponents. Changes to teams will not be visible on the site until the next round.

COMPETITION DEADLINES

We have already maximised the duration of each round to run up to presentation night, and therefore, there will be no extensions to the deadlines of each round. There are no exceptions to this; everyone will be treated the same.

If you have not already arranged your match, the committee should have been notified as per the guidelines. This gives us chance to intervene and help get your match arranged. It also helps us understand where the problem lies, and which team to eliminate (if not both) if we don't receive a result once the deadline has passed.
